Overachiever in My Midst

This is Big and Little Buckaroo about 3 years ago when Big Buckaroo was graduating with his Bachelor's degree.

My awesome hubby had an Associate's degree and returned to college when he
1- became an Asst. Superintendent of a large state park,
2- had a new baby, and
3- had a wife who was trying to adapt to being a stay-at-home mom -translation: whiney woman, you girls know what I am talking about.

He completed his degree in a two year period finishing with a 4.0 GPA (yes, straight A's) And now....he is asking for more torment, I mean, his first class for his Master's degree began this week.

I am very proud to be his wife. He is an exceptional husband and father. And, a smarty britches too!

Good luck Big Buckaroo, I am your biggest fan.

WOW! He WILL do it! With 3 folks at home cheering him on, he will make it WITH straight A's once again.

My hubby had a 20-yr Air Force career and retired at age 39. He had several hours of college while in the Air Force, but had no encouragement to get a degree UNTIL ... he met me!

He started taking classes part-time until he graduated from Oklahoma University in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree to show the world (and his relatives) that he COULD get a degree. It was the first college degree in his lineage and I was (and am) so proud of him for all his hard work.

So add TWO MORE CHEERLEADERS to the grandstand and we will cheer him on along with you and the 2 little Buckaroos.

Hip hip hooray for Big Buckaroo!

Good Luck Big Buckaroo! What is your masters in? I am very curious about this as I am still contemplating going back to school. I have an associates degree but am considering going for forestry or wildlife conservation or ecology. I haven't made up my mind and am not sure which would be best...

Also, any thoughts on Penn Foster (online school) as a certificate rather than a degree?

The boozefairy said I should look this up, so I did. It makes me very happy that the Big Buckaroo is working on his Master's, as is the boozefairy, as am I, at the ripe old age of 54. And what a good example for your little ones.

In perusing your older blogs, I came across your story re: "Mom, your underwear is getting too small." Long ago and far away, I, pregnant with the booze fairy, was standing in line to vote with two small boys. One of them looked at me strangely, and in a VERY loud voice asked, "Debbie, did you 'let one', or was that David?!" Be glad you are raising the Little Buckaroo, instead of the big one. Oh, the stories I could tell. Best wishes to you all. The blog is wonderful! I'm so glad Big Buck found such a bright, articulate woman, with personality and beauty to boot!

Congrats to your husband! I'm a college student and I know how hard it is just to get through school, let alone have other duties and responsibilities to worry about.

Lil Buck's hair kind of matches his teddy bears. I'm just saying.

What a wonderful example for your children. I'm sure your encouragement means more to your husband than you realize. What a great accomplishment!

Been there, Park Wife! I had four degrees when we got married and he had none. I was fine with that, too, but he wasn't. So back he went. Before he finished, we had a miscarriage, his mother passed away, one child almost died and my husband never missed a class. That graduation was a big celebration of our family effort toward the degree. Then he started the masters and finished five long years later. You'll be okay, I promise!
