Project Runaway

I grew up in a little town in Mississippi where I was taught that when you go out in public you "put your face on", dress appropriately, and my goodness paint your toenails if you are wearing sandals. Now, that is not to say that once in a blue moon you did not run into someones mom with rollers in her hair at the Winn Dixie picking up something she forgot for a dinner party. But, all in all, the "rules" of going out in public were adhered to.

So, having two boys with quirky, fun personalities that do not care what others think has been a transition for me. Case in point: the bug-legged, hiking boot chef.

This kind of thing has become a common occurrence. He is adamant that this is what a chef wears.

I have taken Little Buckaroo to town with me dressed as Peter Pan, a pirate, an Indian, oh the list goes on. Littlest Buckaroo has always prefered to wear his cowboy boots and six shooters to town. The people at Walmart even call him cowboy and he has to get his pistols checked by the greeter each time we enter. Well, that was until he came up with his buggy chef outfit.

It has been a bit of a transition for me, but I am learning to roll with it and accept that I have fun, quirky kids.

Hoping the buggy chef outfit doesn't hit the streets of our town,
The Park Wife

Oh that's too cute! :) The towel over the arm is the defining detail. That and the great hat. And that smile.

With my first child I was much more concerned with appearances. My second pretty much can wear anything out and about without me blushing. I think it's because I'm older and care less what people think or that I'm older and am too tired to fight it. ;)

Oh, the chef's hat is adorable! My girls are always dressing funky. It's hard to roll with it, but roll with it we must.

It's so true about having to "put your face on" when going out in public! I think it's a Southern thing (I grew up in Louisiana). I'm sure my new little boy will help his mama shed her vanity at some point as well :)

That's ADORABLE...and I know what you mean. My kids have gone through spurts like this and mostly it makes people smile. My girlfriend actually let her 3-yr. old daughter wear plastic princess heels to church one day, which cracked me up. I guess we have to choose our battles, don't we?!?!!!

Oh he's gonna hate himself when Mom makes a poster board of his childhood pictures at his wedding!
Too funny!

Adorable! I never go anywhere without my face on either (gotta hide those mommy wrinkles). My youngest is a boy ... he and your chef have a lot in common. Boys are so cute and funny and silly. They know who they are and that's good enough. We could all learn a thing or two from little boys! :)

All my southern family had to make sure they had "their faces on" before leaving the house. Too funny!

My daughter loves the funky outfits too. I have given up on stopping it.....I'm believing that it is a sign of her genius creativity, but it might just be a stage (or her father's influence!)

The chef outfit is very cute.....but I am going to keep my daughter from seeing it, or I might just end up with a little chef of my own! :)

I remember the days! However, now that I have two teens - it's the "real" outfits they want to leave the house in that I have to worry about! LOL

Love this! WOW! He looks like you and your bros! The Darling One was mortified the other night when Darling Too chose to wear a Pink Lady costume to The Fox to see Grease!! She comes downstairs to help me cook in a too small white pinafore and Laura Ingalls bonnet. She has no intention on getting rid of ANY of her dress up clothes. I know you're as grateful as I am that our kids have personalities of their own! As Darling Too's teacher said, "She is not easily influenced by others." There are worse things than being comfy in your own skin! xoxo

I saw you on Pioneer Woman and would be happy to send you a bottle of Hoison Sauce and any other Asian sauce you can't find in your local grocery. My email is: Belleindy@gmail.com. Send me your mailing address and I'll get them off tomorrow! Your boys are adorable and I love the moose. From afar. Thanks for sharing, Amy in Portland, OR.

What a cute little man! We've made the trip to the store in princess garb before. (Well, my daughter at least was in princess garb. I was most likely in exhausted mom garb.) :D
