Mom Identity Crisis Averted

I went and got my hair cut and colored yesterday. I usually color it myself because, well, I am cheap. But, there are times when you mess something up so bad and you need a little help fixing it. Yea, that happened to me. I won't go into the whole story, but just know it involved bleach and some leopard spots.

So, my nice, trendy hairdresser that I had just met (she saw dollar signs when she looked at my hair) started doing the obligatory salon get to know you routine: Who are you? What's your story? Do you wear animal prints to match the back of your hair?

I started to formulate in my mind "my story" and my heart started beating real fast. WHO AM I??? The Buckaroos were with me so it was obvious that I was a mom and a homeschool mom since Little Buckaroo is old enough to be in school. What should I tell her next? Oh no, I am not going to have a mom crisis, am I? I went through an identity crisis a few years ago where I felt "bored".

I was not bored like nothing to do, I was juggling a husband, kids, house, animals, garden, etc.? It was a different kind of bored, like my creativity was dwindling, that I needed something new and different. I even thought about applying for The Next Food Network Star, but they would not let me use my smoke detector food timer.

I missed, and still do at times, the excitement of working in public relations. The travel, the social aspect, and the accomplishment of completing a job successfully. I identified myself for so long by my job and how well I did my job. And, the fact that society deems that as what is important is why I get antsy when people want to know "who I am".

My heart rate got back to normal pretty quick because I have figured out how to avert the identity crisis, intentional thankfulness. I am so blessed. I have an extraordinary husband and smart, healthy boys, a loving family, and friends that I adore. This is a wonderful season in my life, exactly where I am supposed to be. And, I could not ask for more.

Oh, by the way, right after my trendy hairdresser asked me about myself and I had my whole "oh my, who am I" flash, she said, "wait, aren't you Big Buckaroo's wife? I worked in the park gift shop right before I got married."

With a twinkle in my eye, I said "yes, I am. I am Big Buckaroos wife." And felt completely at ease and proud that that is who I am.

Big Buckaroo's wife,
The Park Wife

I thought I was the only one who used the smoke detactor as a timer! When the smoke alarm goes off my hubby yells, "Suppers Ready!"

Don't you just hate sitting down in the chair of a professional stylist... knowing that they are wondering what in the world you were thinking when you made your own attempts and hair color, cuts, etc??? Even if you try to sound intelligent, you know they are mocking you in their mind! LOL

Hope you were pleased with her work. No pictures???

I understand about the "who are you" question. I just don't bother answering the question. Or I tell them my name.

So glad you were able to find your identy. Just don't ever tell the not addicted that you have a blog. It is the equivalent of saying you sell Amway. I've found it a really quick way to make eyes glaze over.
Really cute post.

So, identity crisis aside, how'd the hair turn out?

Love this post. I get easily brain bored too, and then I get myself in trouble by getting involved in too many things...

Wonderful post, it can be quite the challenge to juggle it all with a family and not get lost in the mix! Sounds like you have figured it out, hold on to it!!

Your post is exactly the reason I started my blog. I know what I am, but somewhere along the way I forgot WHO I am. I'm still not sure what that answer is, but I know who am NOT and that's worth knowing.
I have a state park that backs up to my property. We LOVE having
900+ acres of woods, trails and stream as our playground.
It's the best place I have ever lived.

I HATE the pressure of seeming cool to a new hair stylist! My latest one is 24 and hot and skinny. I'm sure she's judging me because I'm not any of those things!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! I hope you'll enter the giveaway!

Just know that you have the greatest job in the world and many women envy you the ability to be at home.

Loved this.

You know, I think the world wouldn't generally classify "hairdresser" as one of those "I made it big" professions. Even though they usually look fabulous. Just sayin.

I can totally relate to that. "Hi How Are You" small talks COMPLETELY freak me out. Sounds like you managed to recover well, though!

btw - we are homeschooling also. Just preschool at this point, but that's the plan! It's always nice to run into other homeschoolers!!

I completely understand where you are coming from which is why I decided to start blogging...

It was part boredom, part frustration, part feeling isolated after working for so long and the list goes on and on...

It's kind of funny that after I began blogging, I too remembered that I am so fortunate to be where I am...which is exactly where(many moons ago), before the birth of my second child I decided that I wanted to be...at home with my children.

I've seen the same hairstylist for years whose chronicled my life story for some time now, so it's usually just a few quick updates, but I'm sure she's looked at my hair a time or two and wondered...WHAT IN THE WORLD DID SHE DO TO HER HAIR?!

I love this post!
