Digging Up History

Alright, I am done being grumpy, the sun is shining and Spring is in the air.

We had an extraordinary experience yesterday. The state archaeologist is at our park with some graduate students from one of the college's digging behind one of the historical homes.

They have found an old fireplace underground and are digging to figure out if it was a kitchen, smoke house, slave quarters or something else. So far, they believe it is from the 1830s.

A new friend from MOPS (who also homeschools her kiddos) brought her wonderful children over to hang with the Buckaroos for the day.

The cool part? The archaeologist (in the overalls), who is extraordinary with kids, let the Buckaroos and their friends come sift with them. He explained the process to them and then...

set up their very own screen. They found lots of brick, pottery, square nails, a door hinge, and bones and teeth from a hog. I love homeschooling!

Boys and dirt, a great combination. I am trying to tell my washing machine that.

Let me tell you how much I love these boys personalities. Little Buckaroo put the hat and bandanna on as soon as he woke up because of course you have to dress the part.

No dinosaur bone finds for my little paleontologist, but I think he might be broadening his career path and archaeology could be his target. He is 7, I am sure it will change 748 times before his college years.

Be still my heart. My new friend has a little girl too and she was not too big into digging in the dirt, it would get into her cute sandals. But, she loved the flowers.

The sun is shining, my garden is growing, and I am going to focus on my blessings.

You have plenty of blessings of which to be counting. You have a beautiful christian family. You get to live in a great place. And you get to share history.

I have been reading your blog for quite some time & have been interested in your gardening and various other subjects. Today, however, I took the time to read your history, and it dawned on me (I'm slow! ha!) that I actually went to high school with you. I also had Laura Hyche for English and Journalism. I still keep in touch with her! Anyway, long story short, I think you are doing so great, and I was so motivated by the fact that you are so into gardening that I started all of my seeds yesterday. Wish me luck as you well know that it will be super hot come July, and I will be suffering multiple heat strokes as I stand outside watering and picking. However, the outcome will be awesome! Oh yeah! You have a beautiful family and you haven't changed a bit! I can't wait to talk to Hyche and tell her about your blog! Happy Gardening!

Cute pictures! Looks like they had a blast! Nothing like digging in the dirt to make a happy kid!
Yea, I don't think my washing machine likes us very much right now. =)
Very cool!

P.S. I just had to say that I was homeschooled growing up. Yea!
