The Park Wife Gets Political

I know, I know, you guys are used to me writing about living on a state park, pictures of our little Buckaroos and baby pigs, chickens and the occasional horse. And, now I am going to go off and get political with you. Well, be patient with me, or just sit back, have a Dr. Pepper and put up with me because you are my bloggie world friends.

From the beginning, I knew I was going to vote for Senator John McCain, I am a conservative Christian and frankly, the alternative is very scary to me. But, I did not have an enormous amount of gusto about it.

I planned to vote for McCain because he is pro-family, pro-marriage, pro-life and pro-America, wow, we have a lot in common. He is committed to protecting our children and preparing them to succeed ~um, so am I. He supports parental choice regarding education (whew! homeschoolers rock) and has vowed to place parents and students at the center of the education process. That is refreshing/comforting for a homeschool mom because believe me, I am right in the center of my children's education process at the moment.

Then, Kaboom! Exploding on the scene is Sarah Palin....I will wait for the applause to die down...o.k. here we go. I really like her! Did you expect that from a conservative Christian mom who chose to leave the business world behind and focus on raising two little Buckaroos?

Palin appeals to me for many reasons ~ her strength, grace and humility to name a few. I feel like she is one of us ~ she has a real family that isn't perfect, whose husband is a blue collar union member, a hockey mom who has the courage to speak her mind. Change that to a state park ranger and a soccer mom and we have so much in common! Well, except that I don't have an office in a Capitol building nor do I run marathons, nor shoot moose, um, I am not really a "maverick", well, o.k. we don't have a ton in common, but we are both moms who love our kids dearly.

I know everyone is giving her grief about her oldest daughter being pregnant, but all I have to say is be careful judging people. Bottom line is, she, with her newest arrival, and her daughter both chose LIFE. On the flip side, a quote from Obama, "Look, I got two daughters - 9 years old and 6 years old,” [Obama] said. "I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby." Oh my, did he call a baby punishment?

A statement from Gov. Palin released after she gave birth: “Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed.”

Enough said on that topic!

She seems very down to earth, as Governor, she drives herself to work, put the previous Governors jet on e-bay, and fired the chef. Now, I would have kept the chef, but that is just me wanting a night off from cooking for the family. She took out Alaska’s corrupt power structure and is a champion of ethics reform. I think she might have a Superwoman outfit in her closet, if she doesn't, I bet she can sew too.

So, she chose to have a job outside of the home, boy, look what she is doing with that choice. She wants America to be a better place for her kids and for ours.

Vote McCain-Palin 2008!
The Park Wife

I am off my political soapbox for now, but it could happen again. Remember, this is my blog, I respect others opinions, so please respect mine (or at least pretend to by just clicking to another blog rather than leaving me an ugly comment, hehehe.)

Amen sister! Loved her pitbul & lipstick funny! She is real. And you are right about being careful not to judge, we ALL sin & fall short of the glory of God. Thankfully His grace is sufficient, huh?!

Blessings to you.

*We support McCain-Palin 2008!

:) I'm glad you are brave enough to state how you feel because I'm not ready to go to there, yet- not on my blog anyway! I pretty much agree with you though and will be voting for McCain-Palin as well!

I agree! I was a bit concerned in the beginning mainly because, as a friend pointed out, she was unknown and having a woman VP is unknown to me. Can she handle all of that and be a mommy? I even blogged about it. Yes, I love the idea of a stay at home mom but as my dear mother pointed out, God calls us to all different things. She is not abandoning her family. She is making sure the world knows how important they are to her. And the judging her daughter, I have a 14 yr. old. So..yeah, that's all I will say on that. Your blogs are fun! Thanks for your honesty!

How's schooling going?

We are voting for McCain & Palin in Oklahoma. That is the ONLY choice if we want our great nation to survive!

I thank you for openly sharing your support for McCain-Palin. I am an older Christian mom (my daughter is 27 and my son is 29)who reads your blog. My daughter is preparing for her wedding in less than two weeks and her 3rd trip to Iraq in less than a month. I honestly have a fear of what the days in our country will be like if the other side wins this election, but have to keep reminding myself that even if that does happen God has a plan.
I was a stay at home mom until my youngest was 16. Now I am back in the corporate world building up my retirement and not regretting in the least the years I stayed home.

AMEN! You said it all. I am so excited about this upcoming election now, and just a couple of weeks ago I wasn't excited at all. I just knew I would vote for the pro-life candidate, but I wasn't very enthused about it. Now all has changed! And I love McCain's statement "I've introducted her to you folks and now I can't wait to introduce her to Washington!" Look out DC! Here comes Sarah!

Funny thing is, we have a son living in Alaska. He is more of a tree huggin' liberal, but he also likes Palin, as do 80% of Alaskans! McCain-Palin is the ticket, and we need to pray for God's guidance for them as they may be soon leading the greatest country on earth.

And God's blessings on you and your buckaroos.

I had a very hard time accepting a woman as the VP. But when I heard her speak, and yes I realize her speach was written for her, but she did a great job delivering it. I would not want to be in her shoes. I feel for her daughter. How would I like one of my less that great choices to be plastered all over the tv and have to listen to what everyone thinks about it. I assure you that girls get pregnant...wow, what a revelation huh? And they have gotten pregnant out of wedlock since the beginning of time. It happens. It does not make that person a bad person. And then it is up to us to learn how to deal with it. My goodness, it is a life, not a disease. It may not have been "planned" but it does not make it a "mistake".

I have to say I truly hope that people get out and vote for this election, and I hope that no harm comes to anyone in the political ring. I fear this could be a bad year for there are a lot of crazy people out there. So to all the candidates I pray they will be safe, will be honest (?) and be true to their beliefs. I hope God blesses this country with strong leaders, and Godly people. But that means we as citizens have to do our part as well. Vote in the good, hold them to high standards and get rid of the rest. God Bless America!!!

I agree with everything you said! I am so glad that Sarah Palin is on this ticket. When he announced who it was it gave me a huge peace and sense of pride. As far as her daughter, I have been there. I have been the teenage mother, and I know that she and her baby will make a huge impact on this world. God does not make mistakes. What I did, what her daughter did having sex before marraige that was a mistake. The baby that God choose for us to mother is NOT a mistake. :)

I could not disagree more. It scares me that so many people agree with your (well written) opinions’. Do we honestly think that Sarah Palin could lead the country if something happened to John Mc Cain? No way!

For me it is an easy choice. I support the Democratic Party. I have trouble supporting McCain’s pro life views. That issue is a deal breaker for me.

I know I will be attacked for my points of view but they are mine.

I have no idea how I stumbled on to your blog but thank you! I love it. Everyone seems to be pro Obama and he makes me feel slightly sick. I told my husband that if he were to get elected we would have to move out of the country. JK

Oh Anonymous, we all have a right to our opinion, that is why I write a blog. And, if you are incinuating that you will be attacked because of your point of view here by me, you must not read my blog often or you would know that I am not the kind of person to do that. Healthy debate, yes, attack, not going to happen.

I think your question is "Do we honestly think that Sarah Palin could lead the country if something happened to John McCain?" Um, yes. Palin has more executive experience than Obama as he has spent 3 1/2 years in the Senate with the majority of it running for President. Palin’s been the chief executive for a state government for a year and a half, during which time she’s actually been doing her job, and was chief executive for a municipality for six years immediately before that. If you look beyond job titles and dates part of the résumé and move on to the “Accomplishments” section you can even more easily argue that Palin is more qualified than Obama. She’s actually gotten things done during her tenure in office.

By the way, Obama not supporting MY moral view on abortion is a deal breaker for me.

I appreciate you leaving a comment and can respect that you have view other than mine. I guess our votes will just cancel each others out, haha.

Wow..very well said! I totally agree. I was in awe when McCain said she was going to be running as his VP. I think it will be a great step up for the every day mom as well. God Bless America!

I know that both my husband and I are both voting McCain-Palin!

I do read your blog and I did not think that I would be attacked by you. Just want to clarify one thing...the pro choice issue is a big one for me. I do not look to my president for moral decisions. I look to my God. I am pro choice because I believe the issue is about being able to make the choice. With that said, I am pro life. I think it is morally wrong to kill a human life. I also strongly defend our right as woman to make whatever choice we want.

Wow! Isn't this country great that you can leave YOUR opinion on YOUR blog? For the record, I would never leave an 'ugly' post anyway... because I second your opinion. To the letter!

Long-time 'lurker', first time commenter... Thanks for your honesty and bravery in stating.

And anonymous? You're right, you do have a right to your opinion. I respect that, and disagree... With a smile :)

I appreciate Anonymous (no one is as anonymous as they think in this bloggie world) stading up for what she believes in also. We all have an opinion. Isn't that what America is about? And, my blog!
